| When I got home from work yesterday I placed my key in the lock to gain entrance to my apartment...and turned... and nothing happened. The door would not open. I tried for about five minutes to jiggle the key, use more force, turn the other way, all the time imagining the people in the apartments across from us looking through their door-peek-hole-thingies and wondering what the heck this guy was doing out there. I called Claire, hoping her key would work, but when she arrived home her key worked no better than mine. We called the emergency phone line for our apartment since it was after hours. They told us they couldn't help and we would have to call a locksmith (but they would pay us back for it). We had to drive to a library to get a phone book to call a locksmith. The locksmith, when he arrived, could not get the door open, even though he is supposed to be an expert. We finally got the maintenance guy to bring a ladder and climb up to our balcony and open our front door from the inside. All of this sound like it happened quickly when I write it out, but there was much waiting, several phone calls, and many intermediate steps to each part of this story. The thing that surprises me the most about this, is that both Claire and I remained very calm and patient and unstressed the whole three hours. | | |
| Yeah for having a Star Wars marathon! As much as the first three movies suck, and a much as Christian Haydensen and Natalie Portman are the two worst actors who ever played lovers in a movie, and as much as George Lucus miserably failed to live up to the standards of episodes IV, V, & VI - I could go on ranting for a while... it has been fun this weekend to finally get the whole story, see episode V and VI for the first time, and see all six in the span of three days. It is also fun to host parties, make delicious seven layer dip and have friends over three nights in a row. | | |
